THE PLAY
| Dream Theatre Productions is pleased to present La Gaviota, a Spanish-language version of one of Anton Chekhov’s timeless classics, The Seagull adapted into Spanish by Fabian de Cardenas and directed by Ricky Martinez. Chekhov’s classic exploration of love and rejection, desire and dissatisfaction, tragedy and time is vividly re-told in Spanish, retaining the essence of the original yet modernized to identify with the Latin experience. The four-act play follows the characters’ search for love amidst the personal tragedies that unfold when love remains unrequited. Each is dissatisfied with his or her life. Some wish for love. Some crave success. Some desire artistic genius. And all are desperate for happiness. The relevant, vivid re-telling of this masterpiece is infused with new flavor ensuring a satisfying theatre experience. Since its first production in 1896 La Gaviota has been produced, adapted and performed hundreds of times by many companies and actors – most recently in 2008 on Broadway. Our June 2009 production will be the first time a full length Chekhov play has been performed in Spanish in Miami.
