Chekhov’s classic exploration of love and rejection, desire and dissatisfaction, tragedy and time is vividly re-told in Spanish, retaining the essence of the original yet modernized to identify with the Latin experience.

The four-act play follows the characters’ search for love amidst the personal tragedies that unfold when love remains unrequited. Each is dissatisfied with his or her life. Some wish for love. Some crave success. Some desire artistic genius. And all are desperate for happiness. The relevant, vivid re-telling of this masterpiece is infused with new flavor ensuring a satisfying theatre experience.

Since its first production in 1896 La Gaviota has been produced, adapted and performed hundreds of times by many companies and actors – most recently in 2008 on Broadway. Our June 2009 production will make South Florida’s romance with Chekhov grow.

Fabian de Cardenas, Artistic Director of Dream Theatre Productions and Gabriel in the play, says “We have a great director and an amazing ensemble cast. We are looking forward to the opportunity to offer the Hispanic community our adaptation of this vital play.”

Ricky J. Martinez, the director of La Gaviota, Carbonell-nominated actor, and director of more than 50 theatre plays, says “The opportunity to see such an irresistible masterwork by Chekhov with this powerhouse of a cast is not to be missed!”

La Gaviota is sponsored by Mega TV and La Classica 92.8. Additional support from Palacio de los Jugos, Johnny Arraiz photographer, and Torre Pingón
